The Oakland High school JV Soccer team has started their 2019-2020 winter season. After having two tryouts to pick up players, they finally picked up 14 players onto the team.
After two tough pre-season games, the team knows how to play with each other now, according to forward player Rasheed Algahim, a PLTW sophomore. The JV team played their first Oakland Athletic League game against Oakland Tech on Friday, Jan. 10, coach Keith Stoker said, and lost 3-1.
The Oakland High JV team’s record as of late January was 1-1-1 (Wins-Draw-Loss).
“We are a great team, a lot of good players, But all we need to improve on is our passing and shooting the ball,” said Algahim. ”If we accomplish that, I think we will be the best team in Oakland.”
After a record of 4-3-3 last season, Rasheed Algahim knows Oakland High JV will do better this season and keep it going for the rest of the season. They are trying their best to practice and to win all of their games this year.
When asked if he thinks they will win first place this year, he responded “Yes… Because I know we have what it takes to win the Championship and win many other games too.”
Algahim said the team is trying to get used to a new formation that Coach Stoker recently introduced. The players are coming up with tactics to go against their opponents. They have been practicing their new formation and passing across the field.
The team’s last game regular-season game was February 7 against LPS Richmond.
