New AirPods Pro aren’t worth the hype

By  Ali Ismael

So you may have heard what Apple recently just put out, the AirPods Pro. The AirPods came out on Oct. 30. Some people say they’re trash and some people say they’re good, but you will never know until you try them out.

The new AirPods price starts at $249, according to Apple. That’s $90 more then the first AirPods, but I think there’s not really any difference. However, many people are willing to pay for the new features.

“I feel like the first AirPods are better looking then the AirPods Pro,” said PLTW sophomore Rasheed Algahim. “But the sound quality is better than the first one. And also another cool future about is the noise cancellation which is pretty cool.”

I agree with Algahim that the noise cancellation helps listeners focus on their music.

The first AirPods are better looking. The new AirPods Pro were designed for superior function rather than appearance.

“The AirPods Pro have an ultracompact, lightweight, noise-isolating and sweatproof design that fits more ears securely and delivers better bass and overall sound than the original AirPods,” said a CNET article by David Carnoy. “Their active noise-canceling significantly reduces ambient noise and they have a transparency mode to let in sound. Headset performance when making calls is top-notch. Case supports wireless charging, and replacement ear tips are dirt cheap.”

This is also true. However, a downside to the new AirPods Pro is that their battery life is shorter than the first AirPods. The new AirPods last about four hours according to Apple, whereas the first AirPods stay up to five or six hours, according to Apple. For many O-High students, battery life is very important for the scholars

Overall, I would rather pick the first AirPods because first they’re way better looking then the AirPods Pro. Second, they fit the budget of for mostly everybody. And finally, the first AirPods have better battery life because of the size of the AirPods.

If you’re buying (or asking for) AirPods for the holidays, you should figure out what you’re looking for. If noise-cancellation is important to you, the new AirPods might be worth the extra cost. But if you’re looking for normal, functional AirPods, get the first.
