The Wildcats baseball team played in Oakland Athletic League semifinals on May 1. The Wildcats didn’t come to expect that they would make it to the playoffs but they had a strong start with veteran players. Players said Coach Harold Jefferson did well in motivating them to do their best.
The Wildcats started in D2 and won the Championships, which allowed them to progress to the playoffs against a D1 team. The WIldcats faced KIPP King in the playoffs and struggled in the first part of the game. They attempted to make a comeback, but lost 17-7, ending their season.
During the season, the Wildcats lost multiple players due to academic ineligibility, and also lost players Tyler Pimentel and Hanaan Shahzad for part of the season because of injury.
The Wildcats haven’t made it to the playoffs in over 20 years. “We can do better if we hold ourselves to our highest potential” said Pimentel, a sophomore in ESA, when asked about his thoughts about the aftermath of the playoffs.
