The swim team is having a Swim-A-Thon during February to raise money for the team. A Swim- A-Thon is where you earn money by swimming. Students can come out to support and cheer for their school mates or friends.
Swim season officially starts on Feb. 1. Conditioning started Jan. 7 and happen every day of the week until February.
The swim team is available for anyone who wants to join. To join, a student needs to have a physical exam and come practice at least three times a week according to Claire Burger, one of the PE instructors at O-High.
“Joining swim team will help me get fit,” said freshman Nathan Tang, who plans to try out for the team.
There are many benefits of being on a swim team and just swimming. According to Better Health, an Australian government-funded website that provides health and medical information, swimming helps you maintain a healthy wealth, a healthy heart and healthy lungs.
Conditioning starts after school from 3:30pm to 5:30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and 2pm to 4pm on short Wednesday. On Tuesday and Thursday morning from 6:30 am to 8am, there is also swim practice.
“Students should join swim team to be a part of a team that is like family, that has a lot of fun, and you’ll learn so much in just three months,” said Burger.
Students will be able to travel to other schools along with compete with other schools all while having fun.
Benefits include “The friendships that people made, the feeling of camaraderie, and getting to know new people at this school that you didn’t know before,” said Burger.
