David Byrd, the Oakland High music teacher, took 11 students to a music camp that happened on Oct. 12 – 14 at Cazadero on the Russian River near Guerneville. Musicians from any academy in Byrd’s orchestra and bands attended this camp and rehearsed separately from each other.
Kids from five middle schools also attended this music camp, along with the 11 OHS students, and all spent the nights in tents. Byrd has been taking students to music camp in the past.
The main purpose of this camp is to help teach the middle school students about music.
There will be 130 middle school student musicians from Edna Brewer, Montera, Claremont, and Roosevelt, accompanied by their music teachers. Along with the OHS students mentoring the middle schoolers, there will be nine students from Oakland Tech with Byrd.
