Friday, Oct. 27, will be a busy day for Oakland High Wildcats. It is always a tradition at Oakland High School to have a homecoming week, welcoming students back into the school year with a celebration. This year, homecoming week will be Oct. 23 to 27.
The Wildcats will be playing the McClymonds Warriors for this year’s homecoming game on Oct. 27 after school. The Junior Varsity game is scheduled for 5 p.m., and the Varsity game will be at 7 p.m.
“I’m expecting a crowded game, as McClymonds always has a big fan base because they’re so good!” said senior cheerleader Ondria Garcia. “Rally day is always fun and full of activities I can’t wait.”
The homecoming rally will happen in the last part of the school day, and the whole school will be coming out to celebrate the magical theme: Disney Wildcats. The leadership class decided that the freshman theme will be “Aladdin,” sophomore theme is “Lion King,” junior theme is “Peter Pan,” and the seniors theme is “Lilo & Stitch.”
The spirit week will start off strong with tie-dye day, where every student should come to school with tie-dye clothes, said leadership students. Tuesday will be dress to impress day, where students will be dressing up in their best outfits to show off their fashion sense. On Wednesday, students will dress in cultural outfits from around the world. Thursday will be class theme-dress day.
Leadership students said there will be plenty of activities every day during lunch in the Senior Court, and field.
“I am excited that this is my first homecoming rally,” said freshman Trevor Tran. “Though I am still debating if I should go to the homecoming football game or not.”
Despite early plans to hold a Homecoming Dance this year, there will be no dance, due to a vote in the leadership class. Class members cited timing conflict with the football game as the main reason the dance will not happen.
