Oakland High School’s Lady Wildcats softball team lost a nerve racking game on Thursday, April 7, to Skyline’s Lady Trojans at their field in the Oakland Hills. The game was close; cheating was involved.
The Wildcats had a leading score of 11-4 until the third and fourth innings where the Wildcats made simple mental mistakes allowing the Trojans to catch up and begin to lead. Skyline’s coach then attempted to resubmit a hitter that already pitched. This lead to an uproar between the to two coaches causing the game to end . Oakland took the loss that day
“We played a good game today,” said softball coach Carlos Shelby, adding that there were “mental errors in the third and fourth innings, but overall the ladies did a great job.”
The two teams are rivals when it comes to softball. With Oakland Tech being the top team and Castlemont being the last team in ranking, Skyline and Oakland High have been left in the middle to battle it out for years now
The Lady Wildcats have plans to beat Skyline for the rest of the season. The team feels they were cheated out of a fair game which made them work harder to win future games.
“I will not lose to Skyline again,” said Coach Shelby. “I will not.”
Shelby knows the strength of his players and their capability of winning these games against Skyline. He believes with a little work on “staying alive” during the game they will be fine.
Oakland High’s softball game with Skyline was a game that would make anyone grit their teeth. Luckily, the two teams will face each other again April 28th, 2016 to battle out the last game of the season.
