We have waited for this moment since we were freshmen in 2011 – 2012, and now the time is finally here as we anxiously exhaust the last weeks of our high school years.
The class of 2015 will be crossing the stage on June 12 at 3 p.m. in the Paramount Theatre to celebrate their success throughout their high school careers.
Seniors received graduation information through the mail along with their Marking Period 5 report cards. Each student will get five guest tickets on June 11.
The soon-to-be graduates will practice their graduation ceremony on June 11 in the Senior Court and on the football field at Oakland High. After the practice, seniors will receive their caps, gowns, and tickets for guests who wish to attend the graduation and watch the graduates cross the stage.
Guests will be permitted to enter the theater at 2 p.m., but the ceremony does not start until 3. According to an email from teacher Amy Dellefield, parents and friends with candy leis, balloons, and flowers will not be allowed into the ceremony.
Seniors are expected to be at the Paramount Theatre at 12:30 p.m. on the day of the graduation so they can prepare and fix last minute details for the ceremony, according to Dellefield, who is coordinating the event.
Seniors are feeling rewarded since they put so much effort into their senior projects and other work.
“I’m really excited for the graduation ceremony,” said senior Melanie Flores. “It feels very rewarding for all the years of hard work that I put in.”
Some plan to take a year off of school so they can save money for their college funds. Others plan to go straight to college to begin their higher education.
“I plan to go to Sonoma State,” Flores explained. “I want to major in Psychology.”
