On the afternoon of Friday, May 15, freshmen at Oakland High School had their last big event of the year, Field Day. Field Day happens twice a year for every freshman class. It’s an annual event, and students get very excited to spend their last two periods socializing and having fun with their classmates. Field Days occur on the football field, thus the name “Field” Day.
During the first Field Day of the year, there was an inflatable jumper house, DJ, field games like football, and much more. Although it was the beginning of the year and freshman weren’t very used to each other, they still had a pretty good time. The second Field Day was even better.
“The Field Day was really fun and a lot better than the first one,” said freshman Libby Chuong. “The hamster ball race was exciting even though I fell a couple of times and lost twice.”
In last Friday’s Field Day, Oakland High went all out. From a jumper obstacle course to a hamster ball race to bungee jumper, all the way to a photobooth and a special performance from the rap group Trill Youngins, you could say it was pretty hyped.
“I thought Field Day was amazing,” said freshman Jade Hammond. “Bungee jumping was intensifying and made my blood rush, because I did so many flips.”
Rany Ath, the Wellness Center’s director, annually helps out with the freshmen Field Day, according to Wellness Center staff. Oakland High staff and the Wellness Center create a very fun and welcoming environment for freshmen.
Big shout out to teachers, staff, and partners for making this a safe and fun event!
