Students are fundraising at Oakland High to support their clubs and classmates.

Each class year is raising money, as are clubs like Key Club, KIWIN’S, BuildOn, Swim Team, Culinary Club, and Japanese Club.

Amy Dellefield, Oakland High’s leadership teacher, said, “Any official club, team or organization [that is run by and for OHS students] can fundraise on campus.”

School programs hold fundraisers too. Jocelyn Manalac, a Special Education teacher, said “A long time ago, about 15 years ago, we had fundraising in the cafeteria. We cooked in the classroom and then we sold it.”

Art teacher Jackie Marston said she had also held fundraisers. “Many different ways,” Marston said, listing them: “Car wash, art sales, and book sales.”

All three teachers said students ask them to support other fundraisers too. “All the time,” said Marston. “Mostly [the funds pay for] supplies–class, trips, field trips, Hawaii, and art class. Of course, [the students] have to work too.”
