As the season ends in a strong finish, Oakland High School’s Track and Field team competed in the OAL finals for one last race at Skyline High School on May 21.
With a team full of potential, head coach Justin Booker trained his runners to achieve their maximum potential.
“We worked hard to get each player’s potential so they can do their best at every track meet and to show their best performance at Finals,” Booker said.
At the OAL Track and Field final, runners from all of the comprehensive high schools in Oakland–Skyline, Tech, McClymonds, Castlemont, Fremont, and Oakland–compete in the last race of the year.
If a runner finishes in a qualifying time, he or she becomes eligible to compete in a state race against top runners from all over California.
No one from Oakland High School will be competing in State this year. For some runners on the team, this was their last year as a runner in high school.
Senior runner Jimmy Tran competed in his last 200-meter race at the OAL final.
He said, “It has been a great three years of being a part of this team. I am proud to say I have been a great part of the Oakland High track team.”
