Oakland High School’s Women Volleyball team ended their season with 2 wins and 7 losses. Though they do not have more games to redeem themselves, they still keep their heads up. On the other hand, the JV team went 5 wins and 4 losses, a little better than the Varsity team.
Even though the Varsity team lost the majority of their games, they practiced hard and with dedication for what they were doing. The varsity team had 26 girls that tried out to become a Varsity Wildcat, but only 10 of the girls had played either in Varsity or in JV. They practiced for four weeks.
The difference from this year and last year’s volleyball team is “nothing,” said Amy Dellefield. “Not bad volleyball players. All matches were close.”
“Since it was my first year in Varsity, I did pretty bad,” said senior player Carmen Enciso. “I got the hang of it but I still had mistakes.”
Just because the Lady Wildcats ended up with 2 wins and 7 losses, it does not mean it is the end of the world. They have next year to redeem themselves. According to Dellefield, the key players that made the Wildcats stay close to the others teams are seniors Trinh Huynh who plays Libero (defensive specialist), Eva Xu who plays the position of a middle hitter, Lily Dinh who plays as a Setter, and also Dinh’s partner, junior Amy Ma.
On Dec. 12, Oakland High School will be having the Fall Sports Banquet. Come congratulate each player for working hard and giving their all!
