OHS’s homecoming football game is near: Oakland High will host McClymonds High on November 5 at 2 p.m.
The football team has been practicing and getting prepared for the homecoming game ever since the team chose its players for the year.
“I feel like we owe it to the school to win that game and do it with pride,” said left tackle Jamil Stevenson, a senior. The football team is determined and plans to win against their opponent.
Last year, the Wildcats had a bad season, losing all their games except for the homecoming game against Fremont High. Starting a new year with a new season and new teammates, the team strives to do better as head coach Jayce Goree returns for his second year at Oakland High.
Goree has not responded to requests for an interview.
The football team will have their game at the end of homecoming week. Students like Jamil Stevenson hope OHS will bring home the win from McClymonds.
“We know homecoming is a very important game,” said senior cornerback Jimmy Pratt, “but it’s just a stepping stone to our goal, going to the playoffs.” Winning this game can open doors for the football team and that is what they are aiming for.
