After initial disagreements, the city of Detroit is going to actually build a statue commemorating RoboCop.
A fundraiser program called Kickstarter helped raise about $50,000 to help fund this project. A Californian man named Pete Hottelet donated $25,000 to the project. Hottelet owns a company called Omni Consumer Products, which is the same name as the company in the RoboCop movies. According to the site Mail Online, Hottelet is a huge RoboCop fan who stated, “The more money we raise the bigger the statue can be.”
Campaign creator Brandon Walley said that he really wants the statue to be bronze and big.
The project has also enlisted robot expert Fred Barton to help design the statue. Barton owns a company called Fred Barton Productions, a company that makes high-tech replicas of famous Hollywood androids for museums and collectors. Barton stated, “It’s a very exciting project. As soon as I heard about it I wanted to be involved.”
