Lizzy Vlasses teaches ninth- and tenth-grade English and tenth-grade AVID at Oakland High School. She has been a teacher at Oakland High School since 2009.
Vlasses was born and raised in New Jersey. Ever since she was young, she wanted to become a teacher.
“I like working with teenagers because they are the future,” said Vlasses. Of Oakland High, she said, “I like the diversity, activities, and the large English department.”
This year, Vlasses is coaching badminton and helping out with Close Up. She helped out with Close Up last year, but this year, she says she is not going on the trip to Washington DC.
Vlasses also changed classrooms before the school year 2010-2011, from the TC classrooms to the main building. She says she loves being in the new building because it’s closer to other teachers, it’s closer to the bathrooms, and that classroom is really nice.
Vlasses thinks Oakland High School is a great place to both teach and learn.
