Oakland high school athletes received college scholarships to division 1 & 2 schools for football.

4 football players received scholarships this year. Dave Douglas received one from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Damante Horton to Washington State, Ed Davis to Hampton, and Kelly Mitchell to Humboldt State.

“Keep believing in yourself,” said Douglas. “Someone paying for your college scholarship is a blessing, so keep working hard.”

This was a very memorable day for Oakland High football because this was the first time in fifteen years one of our players received a scholarship, according to the head football coach Desmond Gumbs.

” Hard work and dedication to the team,” said Horton on what it takes to be noticed. “Individually helping others on the team by being a team player and them doing the same for me in return.”

It takes a lot of hard work to receive an athletic scholarship, and each of these four players did that. Summer workouts, combines, and performance in games in front of top schools earned these players each a spot at their respective universities.
