According to theholidayspot.com, Pope Gelasius declared February 14th ST St.Valentine’s Day around 498 A.D. Others, though, say Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome.
Still others say Valentine’s Day started in the time of the Roman Empire in ancient Rome. February 14th was a holiday to honor Juno, who was the queen of the Roman Goddesses.
Either way, even though the history of Valentine’s Day remains a mystery, every February across the country, candy, flowers and gifts are exchanged between love ones.
“On Valentine’s Day, I’m going to buy flowers, chocolates and give them to my mom,” said Vern C, senior.
Many students are not sure about what they are going to do on Valentine’s Day.
“I have no idea about what to do on Valentine’s Day” said Patrick C, junior.
Others will spend the day having a fun time with family or friends.
Norma R, a senior, said that she will go to the Inquietos concert that will be downtown at the Oakland Convention Center.
